The Democrats never ever get anywhere near socialist or social democratic ideas if they did they would be lynched. The closest the Democrats come to being socialist is if you compare them with Australia's conservative Liberal party (for all their faults the leftist leaning conservatives in the western world) and that is why the US will not follow Europe. Australia at least abstained in the last UN vote involving Israel and that was only because they nicked some of our passports to knock off a guy from Hamas in Dubai.
