Ref: "even though Assange’s role is actually much closer to that of a newspaper publisher than that of a whistleblower."

Paul, in the interview on AntiWar.com conducted by Scott Horton (http://antiwar.com/radio/2010/07/28/julian-assange-2/) Assange says that he regards himself not as a whistleblower but more as a publisher. I have also heard him on other interviews and in print make similar statements.

Since 9/11 we had a glimpse at least of what are the consequences of our Intel services at work. So Bush organized phony Commissions to whitewash his administration of charges of idiocy instead of intelligence. A young DIA-- Pentagon's CIA—analyst serving in Iraq in 2008 wrote a book STILL BROKEN in which he exposed how our military unintelligent were our Intel ops in Iraq:

http://www.amazon.com/Still-Broken-Recruits-Intelligence-Failures/dp/0891419144/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280705240&sr=1-1

Few read it and the Big Lie rolled on. For years the Pentagon has s—t lies galore on us and then marking TOP SECRET the very toilet tissue it used to wipe its butt clean. Mom&dad soldiers died needlessly prosecuting a dumb war while we were sandwiched between the Petraeus Peanut Gallery of Raving cheerleaders ODed on steroids-- military "experts" all, though none saw combat-- to think that the “successful” surge in Iraq would be repeated in Afghanistan while returning soldiers seeking to give meaning to their experience smoked the air with tales of great deeds. A few "imbed" videos made it clear that Americans were not at all relating to the local hearts&minds, but what's all that in the face of a dysfunctional media spreading the big lie in hope of favoritism on a big scoop? So finally, a young soldier put his life on the line and, thanks to Wikileaks, gave us 93,000 pages of tactical Intel documents exposing at every tactical level what a failure was our “success” under Bush-it…with 23,000 documents of more recent vintage still to go. These documents beg the question: how many do-overs can the Pentagon get before you accept its incompetence and get out?

Bush "privatized" the war for he knew that there would the tens of thousands of young PhDs in useless fields who would say anything for a Wash DC defense corporate job. Those many military blogs, read by so very few, have been propagandizing us into dumb hope. How can we know different while we're here, not there? So a $trillion/year feeds a bloated Pentagon War on Terror run by incompetents hiding behind “secret” classification until now. NOW WE KNOW and so WE ARE RESPONSIBLE for everything done in our name because we can no longer say: "Wow, I never knew." You can be a flag waver all you want but can’t claim to be a patriot until you refuse to allow to be done to America's children at war what you would not allow to be done to your biologic children. If you don't want your kids in manure up to their knees-- HEAD FIRST so they can't see, breathe or move-- then read these documents and THEN decide what is your duty as an American. NOW YOU KNOW what our Intel was at almost every tactical level since nearly the beginning.

Indeed all 4 of those leaks would be explosive. Personally I'm still waiting for Wikileaks to release the diplomatic cables from US embassies around the world, which should contain much more sensitive material than the war logs.

I'm really confused by your continuing crusade against these leaked documents. You seem obsessed with contrasting them with the pentagon papers, which are of course quite different from this. But the Pentagon Papers were denounced in much the same terms that you now employ, were also outdated, also didn't reveal anything new to informed researchers of Vietnam. These documents have brought the negative aspects of Afghanistan into greater light, and have not, as you and other detractors have predicted, significantly added to the anti-Iran rhetoric.

I'll grant you that these documents don't reveal much new, but your crusade against them is really over the top.

Why let the Guardian interpret the ClimateGate emails for you?

You can readily read the original material yourself and arrive at your own conclusions:

Comprehensive compilation:

Yes, most of us are capable of analysis and judgment on our own.
