I violently disagree with Blix that he didn’t persuade the UN and the rest of the world about the truth of the Iraqi (non-existent) nukes. There was widespread skepticism – so deep that no one but Britain would go to war with Bush. All my doubts fell away when Blix and his team delivered their second report – and that’s when Canadian news organizations stopped hiding their skepticism behind “objectivity.” And whenever that footage of Colin Powell holding forth at the UN is rerun, it pans over the representatives in the hall, and I am struck yet again by their faces, which are pretty good registers of their failure to be moved by Powell’s so-called “evidence.”
It was Americans that Blix failed to persuade.
