Trump’s statements this afternoon quickly won praise from David Duke:
Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville & condemn the leftist terrorists in BLM/Antifa https://t.co/tTESdV4LP0

But his performance did not go down well on Fox News:
Fox News host @KatTimpf absolutely goes off on Trump’s “disgusting” presser: “I’m wondering if it’s actually real life what I just watched.” pic.twitter.com/BS0xFwxk3o

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy tweeted:
Just stopped on roadside to read @POTUS remarks. I nearly threw up. An American President offering a defense of white supremicists. My god.

FYI, after today, White House staff have effectively been folded into the white supremacy propaganda operation. Your choice – stay or go.

This performance also has the Trumpian characteristic of tainting all those around him, compromising them permanently. Why is Steven Mnuchin standing there, acquiescient? Because the event was supposed to be about the “infrastructure” scam. Nevertheless, there he is, gutlessly conjoined for all time with the claim that those who march with swastikas flapping next to them can still be “fine people.”
