American Jews strongly believe in Israel’s commitmitment to peace, and largely think the Palestinian leadership and people are opposed to it, according to a new poll.
Eighty-four percent of respondents in the survey released last week said the Israeli government is committed to a lasting peace, compared to just 20 percent who said the same about the Palestinian Authority. More than half think the Palestinian people are opposed to peace with Israel.
Sponsored by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, the poll sampled more than 1,000 American Jews several days before President Obama called for the 1967 borders to be used as the basis for negotiations for a future Palestinian state.
More than 75 percent of those polled said the biggest obstacle to peace in the region is the Palestinians’ “culture of hatred” and promotion of anti-Israel sentiment.
Seventy-eight percent said it was essential for the Palestinian Authority to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and 62 percent did not believe that Israelis would be free from Palestinian terror attacks even if a Palestinian state were created in the West Bank and Gaza.

MY COMMENT: Yes, because they get their news from the U.S. corporate, mainstream media and partisan, pro-Israel sources – and not from Haaretz, Ynet , +972 Mag, War in Context, Mondoweiss, Tikun Olam, etc.
Commentary, Weekly Standard, New Republic, Fox News, etc. are like some kind of hallucinogenic-induced, bizarre, alternate reality.
Further to dickerson3870s comment: Maybe 4 or 5 years ago, I read an article (from Ha’aretz perhaps) that there are numerous Israelis who “choose not to know.” I think the article was in the context of a discussion of Amira Haas’s work. All I remember of it was the statement about “choice,” and a comment by an Israeli woman was quoted in support of it. She said something like: I know that Haas regularly writes graphic columns about the sad conditions in the territories, and friends keep telling me I should read her; but I know her columns would just make me feel helpless to do anything, so I just don’t read them.
In my research into the “perpetrators and bystanders” of the Holocaust, I have read extensively about the many Germans who just “chose not to know” about what was happening on the Russian front and in the death camps. Many Israeli and American Jews go ballistic when the topic of “what the Germans knew” is raised. Yet they may themselves be among those Jews who choose not to know about the horrors that Palestinians endure every day of the illegal occupation and siege.
Imagine you live in Stalin’s Russia, there’s a knock at your door and a guy yells: open up, I’m from the KGB and I’m doing a poll on how much you like the Soviet Union!

The days of all Jews in a mental uniform are long over and the Israeli know it. That’s why they’d prefer an American Krystalhacht to Jewish-American “assimilation.” As Abe Foxman from the ADL– the anti-discrimination org (^^%$#!!!!^%!!) said: we’re soooooooo busy fighting against assimilation!….But he only said that in Israel, not here!
Not only are most Jews more American than Israeli but so are most Israelis as they would move here in a NY minute if they could.
