ThinkProgress reports: The FBI has launched an internal investigation into one of its own Twitter accounts.
The account at issue, @FBIRecordsVault, had been dormant for more than a year. But it wasn’t until two days later, when the account tweeted documents regarding President Clinton’s controversial pardon of Marc Rich that the account began to attract significant attention.William J. We’re really in the midst of what amounts to a ragged, semi-coordinated, ongoing, low-temperature coup attempt by rightist elements in the polity, boa constrictor style. It’s legitimately called a ‘coup’ because it aims at single party rule by a minority faction.
Participants range from elected politicians in Congress to members of the judiciary (including the Supreme Court, a key actor in voter suppression) to, now, the FBI. We’ve become used to the first and second; it is alarming to see the penetration of the federal police and security agency, and hard to see how it can be undone. Where does this go?
