We’re really in the midst of what amounts to a ragged, semi-coordinated, ongoing, low-temperature coup attempt by rightist elements in the polity, boa constrictor style. It’s legitimately called a ‘coup’ because it aims at single party rule by a minority faction.

Participants range from elected politicians in Congress to members of the judiciary (including the Supreme Court, a key actor in voter suppression) to, now, the FBI. We’ve become used to the first and second; it is alarming to see the penetration of the federal police and security agency, and hard to see how it can be undone. Where does this go?
