Perhaps Dianne Buttu said it best, “Why must the Palestinians have to negotiate their freedom?” Freedom is never negotiable; one is not free if one has to accept someone else’s limits to that freedom.
The other issue — how can Hamas be brought into any recognition of a compromise that might lead to peace — also depends upon this. Hamas does not have its arm twisted daily by Americans acting as ‘friends’ as the PLO does; so their stance for freedom first, must be addressed. No freedom, no deal.
